- I had the exact same problem (low memory message) until I discovered that
- I had to use picassomode to create the picassomonitor file in -
- sys:prefs/env-archive:
- Whether or not I really *had* to do this, I don't know but after I did,
- SS fired up in 8bit-256 color like never before. I'm still experimenting
- (very carefully) with picassomode trying out different screenmodes.
- Whenever I try 24bit mode in SS I get 4 columns running down the screen
- with 4 "mr. happy's" in the center of each of the columns. Never a decent
- screen image...yet. Anybody know why?

- : I use shapeshifter fine as well on my picassoII, one thing that I have
- : noticed with cybergfx and maybe the same with the villagetronic drivers is
- : that ss grabs its memory and then the picassoII goes to grab its memory to
- : swap out the current screen. The picassoII cant grab enough fastmem and
- : reports back that the openscreen() call failed.....
-
- : If you lower your memory requirements in SS a bit, by entering a fixed
- : amount, ie: not using large available block. You should be able to find
- : comfortable niche where both the picassoII and ss will work together....
-
- : I normally only give the mac 4 or 5mb and leave the rest for the amiga,
- : only memory hogs like photoshop and netscape have ever needed more memory
- : than that in my experience...
